Siblings

Children of a Tennessee sharecropper’s daughter and an Alabama truck driver’s son, Andre and Anitra came from humble beginnings. Both of their parents were first-generation high school and college graduates with relatively successful careers but lacked parental skills to develop two talented and brilliant children. The siblings started as military children growing up in a trailer in Knob Noster Missouri and moved to Wichita, Ks until they graduated from high school. Their shared experience as siblings definitely shaped their chosen paths, but also was critical in their ongoing connection and current development of S2MediaWorks.

Andre, the older brother, entered the world on an Airforce Base in Missouri. Andre was the quiet one, letting the world know he was fine alone, lost in his thoughts and dreams.  He also let the world know he was a protector when at age four his father was sent overseas and his younger sister Anitra joined his family.  Andre was the first to respond to his sister’s cry, bringing her to his mother with her head dangling to announce she needed to be fed.  He soon took on the responsibility of feeding and watching his sister who later became a thorn in his side, yet a rose that he only could admire.

Andre grew up inquisitive, bright, and made friends easily, but struggled realtionally when his father left home the second time for a job.  Church, sports, mentors, friends, and faith shaped his personality during those years of separation when he was forced to live without his father. Without enough parental guidance, Andre’ soon fell prey to the typical urban trap of unwanted pregnancy as a teen and met his second major crisis which led to a suicide attempt.  The seed of faith was planted during this period and a minister was born.  A brave young man continued through the trauma and managed to finish his Bachelor's and Master’s degree at Florida State.  His love for his daughter, Daniella, grew as he grew into the man he is today. Chasing dreams of entrepreneurship, he vowed to be a great dad by always protecting and providing for his children.  He soon married, had two more daughters, and worked toward his dreams. But God had a calling, and unfortunately, his family unexpectedly became a victim of the economic recession, became homeless, broken, and divorced.

No longer able to escape God’s plan and broken by life’s circumstances, Andre returned to his teenage safe haven and sought guidance from his only true friend, Jesus Christ. This became the turning point in his journey where he accepted God’s calling.  He let go of it all, to work on himself and his Doctorate, and began his formal training as a minister. During this time, he continued to fight to keep his connection with his daughters.  After a year, he was in San Diego, California preaching, starting a new business, and reconnecting with the lives of his daughters. Today, Dr. Andre Evans is a father, coach, an anointed pastor of  Mission Church, founder of AEE Ministries, passionate author,  and Co-founder of S2Media Works.

Anitra entered the world demanding the attention of her mother, grandmother, and grandfather with two weeks of colic screaming like clockwork for two-hour stretches from midnight to two am.  After being subjected to the old-school country remedy (catnip tea)  from her grandmother, she became the happy, talkative, tomboy, chasing behind her brother while still becoming independent.  Her first word was not mama or dada; instead like her personality, she abandoned tradition and chose “Ande”. Yes, her brother and protector since her dad was overseas and her mother was a workaholic. Thus, began the sibling bond.  Schooling was easy for Anitra. She was an “A” student and a natural-born leader, and she wrote her own childhood book. She entered the gifted program early and was acting in middle school plays experiencing success until she reached high school.

She became more independent but followed a similar path as her brother growing up in a home that started strong but became broken.  Life threw trauma early with an abusive high school boyfriend resulting in emotional trauma and another suicide attempt in the family.  Fighting through family and personal problems, Anitra fought her way into the high school thespian program and continued the foundation of her path to theater, drama and film. Her performance ability extended into speaking and writing as the lead writer for the school paper and awards in forensic monologues.  Friends, mentors, church, faith, sports, academic opportunities in the gifted program, and the Thespian club began to shape Anitra into the woman she is today.

A passionate, talented performer with a strong spiritual foundation was born out of those experiences which led Anitra to choose Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University graduating with a double major in Broadcast /Journalism and Drama /Theatre Arts.  The desire to tell stories on the big screen was a natural transition to the California School of Arts where Anitra completed her Masters in Film / Directing.  Marriage and a son soon followed and Anitra’s life experience once again intersected with her brother’s with homelessness and divorce.  After that difficult period, she began to rebuild by producing with Transit Pictures and Dope Sinergy and returned to her love of writing, continuing her personal, professional, and spiritual development.  Today, Anitra Lawson, is a mother, media volunteer at church,  professor at Oxnard College, writer, director, producer, founder of OurGlass, and Co-founder of S2Media.
